Here Is how Zelda: Link’s Awakening Shift handles the original’s secret ending

Total The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening without a single death recorded on your save file and you’ll unlock a secret end after the match credits.

This was the case for both variations of Link’s Awakening introduced back in the afternoon, on the Game Boy and Game Boy Color, and it is something the brand new Nintendo Switch version of this game comprises too.

After waking the Windfish and watching Koholint Island vanish, Link wakes up floating at the sea holding to some driftwood. Had the entire adventure been a fantasy? No – because your hulking Windfish itself unexpectedly seems, flying overhead.

It’s here the ending credits roll, and following those you’ll find a final”The End” message.

But if you’ve defeated the whole of Link’s Awakening without dying, you will then get a heartwarming Easter egg comprising Marin, Link’s crush and closest wrestling ally.

Throughout your experience, Marin tells you she wants nothing more than to depart Koholint herself, and also will wish to this Windfish to make it happen.

“When I had been a seagull, I’d fly as far as I could! I’d fly to far away areas and sing for many men and women! … When I want to the Wind Fish, then I still wonder if my dream will come true”

And it’s this you will get to determine if you’ve got that no-death save – the consequence being Marin got her wish and has been spared, even though Koholint Island being no longer.

From the original Game Boy Link’s Awakening, Marin’s sprite was literally given wings – like a floating item in one of the game’s dungeons. She just flew over the”The End” screen.

From the Game Boy Color version, Link’s Awakening DX, a fantasy of Marin herself has been temporarily seen, before a seagull is revealed flying off. The implication here is not as that Marin has sprouted wings, and much more her wish has literally come true.

Ultimately, in the Nintendo Shift variant, which is an immediate remaster of the DX ending. Again, we see a vision of Marin, prior to the seagull flies away. Is Link just recalling her if he sees that the seagull? Or has been reincarnated as a soul? The game lets you decide.

It is one of many ways Link’s Awakening on Change remains true to the first game – which in turn proved to be a large reason I discovered a lot to love about this movie. “Koholint deserves nothing less, and while Link must journey to leave its beaches, this version will always be an area which preserves the island to other people to follow,” I composed at Eurogamer’s Link’s Awakening Switch inspection.
